Parent & Child Fostering - real outcomes

“Moving into a mother and baby foster placement was very difficult in the beginning as I was living in a stranger’s house with people I didn’t know and although they were very welcoming, it was a big change for me. At first it felt as if my life had been taken over with what seemed like lots of rules and restrictions, but I did realise that this was for the best as it provided structure, security and a safe environment.

Although at first I was rebellious, I quickly formed a good bond with my foster Mum as she was caring, funny and always had time to listen to me. I felt that for the first time in my life I could trust someone.

Whilst in the care of my foster family I learnt to be responsible and to put my son’s needs before those of my own and others.

Being in a family environment and having the support of my foster carers helped me to realise that I wanted to be brought up in a normal family home and didn’t need to be a typical teenage Mum who struggled to cope.

On the whole I feel as if I had a good experience and learnt a great deal about being a parent from my foster carers. Without their continued support and guidance I certainly wouldn’t be the person I am today”.
