Permanence, Special Guardianship and long-term placements
Many carers prefer to foster children under long-term arrangements. These are always carefully planned and the child is placed within a family that is able to offer the best care for that individual.
Often a family or individual carer will have undertaken some specialist training offered by Families for Children that enable them to deal, on a long-term basis, with a child who has particular physical or emotional needs.
We have extended our long-term placement range to include permanence and Special Guardianship. These both offer increased stability and a real sense of belonging for any children needing a family for several years and well into independence. Carers will be offered the same high quality service throughout the child's permanent placement and for those who wish to persue a Special Guardianship order, a change in their fostering status comes into effect.
